Last night my roommate asked me if I’d be interested in a checking account with Wells Fargo. I asked her if she was out of her mind. “Don’t you know what they did?”
“Well, they’ve been good to me,” she replied.
I said, “Of course. They’re milking interest off of the money YOU put in there. Your paycheck makes them money even if you think it costs you nothing. Part of boycotting and protesting the big banks that tanked us in such a way that we’re STILL getting out of the hole, is well, boycotting and protesting them.”

I think there lies a fairly important misconception in the idea that the citizens of many of states, particularly across the Beltway, have stood silent while their rights have been taken away. What I’ve seen and experienced seems to ne quite the contrary. The ‘people’ as it were have not been silent at all; in fact, overwhelming majorities in many states seem to have been loudly in favor of things just like this, which is my so many pieces of legislation in favor of restricting abortion and contraception access have gained such a large foothold. And these are top-down initiatives, completely consistent with the large scale, anti-intellectual, authoritarian mentality that comprises almost all of the conservative right. Believe me, I’m offended, just not shocked or surprised any longer. Individuals like this have consumed so much of the conservative Kool-Aid that what they are doing they not only consider correct, but the only moral option as dictated by the values and ideologies their party affiliation espouses.
